Helping Hands Fund
It’s common for Island Home Park residents to organize assistance for neighbors in need, but did you know that our neighborhood also has a Helping Hands Fund set aside for the same reason? If you or a neighbor are facing a hardship that could be helped by this program, contact the Board of Governors to learn more.
Grocery Stores
The Handy Dandy Food Market is a neighborhood convenience store and deli located on South Haven Road.
There is a Kroger located on Chapman Highway that serves several South Knoxville communities.
There is a Publix Super Market located in University Commons, which is on campus at the University of Tennessee. Though farther away, it is still a convenient option.
Library
The South Knoxville library branch is located on Chapman Highway. There are 19 branches located within the county.
Hospitals
Though Knoxville is served by six hospitals, the closest to the Island Home Park Neighborhood are University of Tennessee Medical Center and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.
Public Transit
Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) provides fixed-route transit service within the City of Knoxville. The Island Home Park Neighborhood is served by Route 40. They operate additional bus lines, trolleys, and provide free passes to Knox County Schools students. You can find more information at katbus.com.
DKX Airport
Located on neighboring Dickinson Island, DKX is a full-service fixed base airport.
Knox County Schools
The neighborhood is zoned for South Knox Elementary, South Doyle Middle, and South Doyle High Schools. More information about the district can be found at www.knoxschools.org.
Parks
The neighborhood has access to the Island Home Park, located along the waterfront on Estelle Circle. Also nearby are Baker Creek Preserve, Suttree Landing Park, and Fort Dickerson Park and Augusta Quarry.
Precincts and Voting
The neighborhood is in District 1 in the city and is represented by Councilmember Tommy Smith. In the county, the neighborhood is in District 9 and is represented by Carson Dailey. The neighborhood’s voting location is at Dogwood Elementary School. Those who are not registered to vote can do so through the state’s online registration system.
Tennessee School for the Deaf
One of three campuses across the state, Knoxville’s TSD is accessed through the Island Home Park neighborhood and serves toddlers through age 22 in both residential and day programs.
City Waste Management Services
The City of Knoxville collects brush and leaves from roadside piles on a regular schedule. Brush pickup is on a two-week schedule from March through October. Leaf collection season is also on a two-week schedule and runs November through February. During leaf collection there is no brush pickup.
Garbage is picked up by city crews every Monday. If you have alley access, you leave your bin there. If you do not, you leave your bin on the street.
You can sign up for a recycling cart with the city’s free curbside recycling program on their website. You will receive one bin that is picked up every other Monday by city crews. Like garbage pickup, residents with alley access must leave bins there.

3-1-1 and 2-1-1
You can dial 311 for information regarding garbage, recycling and leaf pick-up, street light outages, parking tickets, potholes, road conditions and other non-emergency issues.
211 Call Center311 operators also field calls to East Tennessee’s 211 line dedicated to referring residents to social services.
Knoxville Police Department
To contact KPD for a non-emergency incident or report, call 865-215-7450. This can include things like a suspicious person, burglary, vandalism, noise complaint, and speeding drivers.

- Located nearby, via Island Home Ave or the greenway, is Ijams Nature Center. The nonprofit runs a nature center with educational resources and maintains trails and play spaces on the property. It is also home to Navitat, a zipline course located on the property.
